Chest Reduction
Chest reduction can be achieved either by male breast reduction surgery, 0r by liposuction, a consultation with the surgeon will determine the best procedure for you.
Male Breast Reduction (Gynocomastia)
Gynocomastia, or excess development of breast tissue, occurs in as many as 40-60% of men. The cause is not always known, but the incidence increases with certain drugs (digitalis,
anabolic steroids, Tagamet, and spironolactone), use of marijuana or alcohol, and obesity. If you think that you have this condition, you should consult with your physician to rule out a more serious condition such as liver or endocrine
disease. If you are otherwise healthy, breast reduction surgery may significantly help your appearance and self-image. The procedure removes fat and/or glandular tissue from the breasts. In extreme cases, skin is removed as well. The result is
a flatter, firmer and more masculine-looking chest. This procedure can improve the appearance of the chest in cases where diet and exercise have failed. The results of the procedure are significant and permanent.
Liposcuction of the Chest
Suction assisted lipectomy - also known as liposuction, is a technique to remove unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body. It is not a substitute for weight reduction, but a method of removing localised fat that does not respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence. The technique can give you new body contours with very little scarring. The results can be permanent, providing you eat sensibly and exercise regularly. If you do gain weight, you'll probably gain it more uniformly throughout your body, not just in the former 'bulges.'
Planning your surgery……….
During your consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your health and determine where your fat deposits lie. It is best for you and the surgeon to be frank with each other, in discussing your expectations, the alternatives and the risks and limitations for each. In any case, your surgeon will work with you to recommend the procedure that is right for you and will come closest to producing the desired body contour.
He will explain the techniques and anaesthesia and any risks involved, and will answer any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results. For
surgery in Cyprus, you need to stay for a minimum of 7 days, which includes a 1 night stay in the clinic and gives time for your recovery and primary post-operative care before returning home.
Getting back to normal……..
There isn't usually significant discomfort after surgery and you should be up and about in a day,
but plan on taking it easy at first. Your surgeon will give you more specific guidelines for gradually resuming your normal activities but above all, get plenty of rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing. Most patients can
resume work just a few days after surgery. To return to procedures page, or go to another page, click the navigation buttons on the left.
