Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a 'tummy
tuck,' is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can dramatically reduce the appearance of a protruding abdomen. Bear in mind, it
does leave a scar, depending on the extent of the original problem and the surgery required to correct it.
The best candidates for abdominoplasty, are men and women who are in
relatively good shape, but are bothered by a large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that will not respond to diet or exercise. The surgery is particularly helpful to women who, through multiple pregnancies, have stretched their abdominal
muscles and skin beyond the point where they can return to normal. Loss of skin elasticity in older patients, which frequently occurs with slight obesity, can also be improved. Abdominoplasty can enhance your appearance and your
self-confidence.
Planning your surgery……….
At your initial consultation, your
surgeon will evaluate your health, determine the extent of fat deposits in your abdominal region and carefully assess your skin tone. It is best for you and the surgeon to be frank with each other, in discussing your expectations, the
alternatives and the risks and limitations. In any case, your surgeon will work with you to recommend the procedure that is right for you, to come closest to producing the desired body contour. He will explain the techniques and anaesthesia
and any risks involved, and will answer any questions you may have, especially those regarding your expectations and concerns about the results. For surgery in Cyprus, you need to stay for a minimum of 10 days, which includes a 2 night stay
in the clinic and gives time for your recovery and primary post-operative care before returning home.
Getting back to normal……..
Healing is a gradual process and you should plan on taking it easy at first. Your surgeon will give you more specific guidelines for resuming your normal activities but above all, get plenty of
rest and allow your body to spend its energy on healing. Most patients can resume work about 2 weeks following surgery. To return to procedures page, or go to another page, click the navigation buttons on the left.
